Hi guys, me and a mate are planning a trip to the states in the summer travelling down the West Coast from Seattle to LA. We're looking for car hire but struggling to find a decent price. We are being stung on the young drivers charge (the driver is 22) and the one way drop off charge....Flying into Seattle on the 27th July and out of LA on the 28th August. Any help is much appreciated.
I suggest you do the following: Get a car in Seattle--drive it around that area (and maybe down to Portland and Mount St. Helens), then drop it back in Seattle and get a cheap flight to San Francisco (so no dropoff charge). Get a car there, and drive it down to LA, and San Diego, then go back north through Las Vegas and Death Valley and Yosemite back to San Francisco. That way you don't have a dropout charge there either.
Flights from Seattle to San Francisco are really cheap on either Southwest Airlines or Alaska Airlines--and you can get there in two hours flight time--which gives you a lot more time in those cities rather than driving the 900 miles from one to the other.
Hey man, my brother has driven across the country about 11 times. He has actually documented all of them on his website. If you get a chance, take a look at them. It might help you out in regards to where you want to go, how to go about it, etc...The site is www.wuts-happening.com.
