Can a US Citizen Open a Bank Account in France?

Travel Forums Europe Can a US Citizen Open a Bank Account in France?

Hello:

I am getting married in June (I'm pretty excited) and we want to go to France with family. With the price of the dollar continuing to fall, I was hoping to open a bank account in France preferably while I am still in the US. Is this possible and if so, can anyone help me by providing detailed directions? I don't mean to be lazy and if I had thought about it earlier would have had time to research but the wedding date keeps sneaking up on me and I'm afraid I don't have time anymore. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!

I know that to open a bank account in the UK as a US citizen I needed proof of residency so I think it might be the same for France.

I know UK citizens can open French accounts, as for US citizens I reckon the US embassy in Paris would be your best bet as some of them would have accounts in France! Drop them an email citizeninfo at state.gov
