Hi everyone,

Just want to be 100% clear on how much each person is allowed to check in with them, is it 2 pieces of luggage & 1 piece carry on usually?? We're going with Singapore Airlines

I'm going for a year & theres no way i'll be able to live out of one backpack/suitcase!

Cheers!

I think if you went with more than one backpack you will struggle to get round, you'll often have to lug your heavy backpack round which is hard going at times, but if you had more than one bag you'd really be struggling. Also alot of backpacker/toursut buses wouldn't be too keen to take more than one bag either. I think its pretty easy to live out of backpack...why do you think you'll need more than one backpack/suitcase?

Only because my boyfriend has a residency visa & so i'll probably end up extending my visa to 23 months & we have a hostel booked for the first week but then are going to rent an apartment after that which is why 1 backpack won't be enough...i think it wont be anyway!!

Hello
I am worried about this too as I am not excatly a light packer. I have found a 100Litre rucksack at a reasonable price, is this too big for a rucksack??

Thanks x

My backpack was 90 litre, I've seen people travelling with 45 litre backpacks, I have to say I couldn't do that.
You have to be pretty ruthless and throw things away or send them home if you don't use or need them.
You'll probably buy a load of new stuff when you arrive at your destination anyway.
I'll definately be packing a lot lighter when I go away next year. I think you'd really regret backpacking with too much stuff, but if your settling down its a different story. I guess it also depends where you're going, if its somewhere cold you'll prbably need more stuff, if its somewhere lovely and warm (mmmmmmm...sorry I was daydreaming there!) then you went need half as much stuff.

Mine's a 65 litre. It can get unbearably heavy when you have to walk some distance. I do think 100 litre is too much, really depends on how much you need to travel with, and how strong your back is I guess!

If you are flying with Singapore Airlines from London to Auckland via Singapore then you will only be allowed 1 piece of luggage weighing no more than 20kgs.
You are only allowed two pieces of luggage if you are travelling to, from or via the USA or Canada.

I did a bit of a trial run last night & stuffed a bunch of my clothes, shoes etc into a large suitcase & got the scales out! I was suprised at how much 20kg actually is, plus we get 7kg of hand luggage so not gonna be no problem! Phew :D
