Hi i am thinking about travelling Oz in September with a friend. Is it a good idea to use one of those travel companies like real gap or are they a bit of a rip off?

I used the Work & Travel Company when I went to Australia in 04/05, I think I paid about £300 and they sorted my visa and a few bits of paperwork, a bit of internet time and a meet and greet day with other backpackers, and possibly my insurance, but dont quote me on that one. I have to say looking back I think I would have been better saving that money for my travels. They did everything that they said they would, but travelling Australia is so simple to travel that I don't think you really need these programs to be honest.

Thanks very much for that, i have read a few comments about differerent companies and alot of people have said that you can do it alone so think thats what we will do. Thanks again.

if you have the time to go through the paperwork yourself than do it.

I went through a 3rd party because I didn't want to spend hours going through visa paperwork. I think it was about $400 looking back it may have been a bit pricey but I really didn't have the time. so it definitely worked for me.

you pay for convenience.
