Herr Bert - my interest is peaked - please tell me more about these tickets.

If i understand correctly (please tell me if i don't), you can only buy them this week and in Kruidvat. They are valid for one day (which has to be a saturday or a sunday) until the end of June, and can be used on trains anywhere in the Netherlands? Is that right??? Also, are they valid for one return journey, or a day long pass to be used as much as you want that day?

If so, I may wish somebody to get me a few extra...

if you need some, let me know how many to pick up !! I owe you after the accomodation mess up

hiya, I'm very open to idea's, i don't drive though so i'm relying on public transport, i like the idea of the flower fields etc but thats very weather dependent, even looking at today, it started off great and now its terrible..........

Yeah, Dutch weather sucks.
This weekend is looking very ambivalent. Decent temperature, but probably cloudy, and with a chance of rain (even if not a very high chance).

Uhm... how's this for a proposal:
We definitely meet up Sunday. Say 11:00 at Utrecht Central, in the central hall underneath the big blue board with train times. We go have brunch somewhere (anyone have any proposals? If not, I'll go ask some friends of mine for suggestions, since I have no idea myself...), and then see whatever we feel like doing.
Do we want to do the Rietveld Schröderhouse for certain, as in, make reservations for a specific time? (Which'd limit our options, but probably is a good idea if we really want to do this.) Possible times are 11.45 a.m., 12.45 p.m., 1.45 p.m. and 2.45 p.m., so I'm thinking 1:45 would probably be the ideal time. Or shall we say that we just go see how things go on the day itself, and see if there's any spots left if we want to do this?

If the weather prediction doesn't worsen, we also meet up on Saturday for the flowerfields (that'd be just Gelli, Rraven and me, then, I guess). Since we all rely on public transport, we can do what Reinier suggested, and meet up at Leiden Central Station (at... 14:00?), rent bikes there, and ride in the general direction of the Keukenhof through the flower fields; deciding if it's worth actually going in when we get there (eyeballing just how many bus loads of Japanese tourists are there) :) - otherwise we'll still have had a nice bike ride through the flower fields themselves.
If by Thursday evening the weather prediction has worsened, we decide to just skip this day. (Or if you prefer, we could meet up anyway, but instead only wander through Leiden itself, which is a nice city to visit, too. (Disclaimer: I live near here, so it'd save me transport costs and all.))

Sounds good to everyone? Anyone have any counter-proposals or amendments? :)

The are just like a daypass. But only valid on Saturday or Sunday. You need to stamp your ticket at the platform before the first trip of the day. So you can use them as many times as you want on the day you stamped your ticket. So in theory you can take the train from Groningen to Maastricht, to Middelburg to Utrecht, on one ticket.

You can get them at Kruidvat this week. I already went to collect 4 tickets (the maximum) for my own use, in the next months. If you need some, I can try in another place to get some extra.

Also note, these number of these tickets are limited, and sell out pretty fast.

11.00 is perfect, I should arrive at 10:52. (for me it's only the Sunday)

Rietveld house, sounds interesting to me. But I don't know if that's the same for everyone.

No, that sounds good to me. I have Nikki's number anyway, so if there are last minute changes/problems, we can work around that. I'll aim for Leiden at 14:00, and Utrecht for 11:00

Brilliant. I Was hoping you would say that! Ok, if the concensus is that we may need one on Sunday, i'd be greatful if somebody can pick one up for me

No problem with the mess, but if you (or Herr Bert, i'm not fussy here!) could pick up 4 extra for me - i'll obviously pay you back when i see you - that would be hugely brilliant

Both days sound like a good plan to me, on a side note I checked the weather for saturday and its looking overcast but the weather guy is always wrong

for Rietveld house it sounds good but do we definetly have to book in advance .....just curious in case we have extra or less people ......

Rich:
for the train tickets I can try and get some either this evening but probably tomorrow evening, depends if i get there before closing........

On a side note I just got an email that might or might not effect various people:

. Strikes/Problems
- Trains between Schiphol-Utrecht Centraal and between Zaandam-Hoofddorp donot run on Sat 12 and Sun 13 April. (info at: ns.nl)

I honestly don't know. The website says that "Reservations are strongly recommended." and "max. 10 visitors per tour". So that sounds like if we don't book in advance, we might just not be able to visit at all. But on the other hand, I suspect it's not really high season at all atm. Yet on the gripping hand, forty people total per day fills up very swiftly.
So we have to weigh the options: do we definitely want to get in, or would we prefer to have the freedom with which time to go and leave the option open for other people to join us - even if that might mean not being able to go at all?

Personally I'm not fussed either way - so someone else will need to make the decision here.

I am not that worried about the rietveld house, we can swing by and see if we can get a tour, if that's not possible than bad luck, but for me it's not a must-see. (I wonder if anything in Utrecht is).

About the tickets: I think it's better if rraven gets the tickets, because I believe you will meet up at saturday already. If she can't get some (it can be they are sold out), then I will try to get some on friday.

i tried to pick up some of the tickets last night (i was too late on wednesday) but they were sold out , i'll try another branch this evening............

If train tickets don't work out, we can try finding some in Leiden or Lisse on Saturday as well.

At Leiden tomorrow, let's meet up at the front of the station hall (the front is the side closest to track 1 (Nikki: where you should be arriving)).
Weather predictions look decent. Not as gloriously sunny as we've had these last three days - but the chance of rain is pretty small, and the temperature decently warm, so we should be good. Wind is looking to be pretty strong, but we'll have it in the back on the way there, so we won't notice until we'll have to slog our way back. ^_^
