So, after years of thinking about it, I've finally booked a flight to Australia and sorted out a WHV.

I'm arriving in Brisbane on the 16th of May and staying until the 8th of December (when I go home via the USA).

I've had a look at hostels online, and was thinking of booking into the Bunk hostel for at least a week. Does anyone know if it's good/bad? Or know of any other better hostels? As for the rest of my time there, would it be better to stay in hostels (long term) or try to find a room in an apartment? I know that here (Scotland) there are a lot of people who share with like 4-9 others so rent is cheap, but maybe it's not the same in Australia.

I'm definitely hoping to get a job asap once I get there. Doing what, I'm not really sure...

I'd like to do the 3 months harvest work, so that I can go back for a second year, but with only being there for a (relatively) short time, I don't know if it's practical...

Basically, I'm going to land in Australia with just the clothes on my back and a small suitcase. And some money.

Any tips/advice would be very much appreciated! :)

harvest work can be pretty hard the beginning you can work your butt off and not get anywhere, with very small pay. it sort of depends on you, what with the work and all (good in the gym?), but perhaps double check your funds, since you may not know how well the harvest gig would work out for you. otherwise, i hope you have a great time :)

lots of luck

Make sure you check out the postcode of where your gonna do your work as the 2nd year WHV is very specific on where youve worked in terms of allowing you back!

Make sure its not close to capitals etc unless your can bluff your way 2nd time round!

I'm starting to think that maybe I'll give "fruit picking" a miss! Especially since I am definitely NOT good in the gym ;)

I'd probably be better trying to get a job with a more stable income, I don't want to be short on cash.

Thanks for the replies!
