I am an American currently studying in Belgium and have a Belgian visa that expires June 15. However, I am planning on traveling after my program finishes and leaving June 20. Does anyone know if I get the normal 90 days in the Schengen zone after my visa expires or do I have to be gone by the 20th?
I believe you do have the right for the 90 days. But you have to be able to prove that you entered a country to start counting the days. But when we travel nowadays, nobody stamps our passport. So it's a bit tricky.
Talk to the government department of Belgium or to US consulate to know how to proceed to avoid trouble.
No, you have to be gone on the 20th. Trust me on this. The only way around it is for you to go to the Belgian authorities and ask for an extension of your student residency permit. Should be easy to do.
