My flight gets into Sydney 9 pm and I need to know if they are cheap shuttle busses from the airport at that time of night.
I was thinking of staying in Glebe so I need to know what would be the cheapest and easy way of getting to the hostel at that time of night or would I be better staying at a more central district hostel for the first night in case there are no shuttle busses that time of night.?
The easiest, cheapest and best way to get to the city (and to Glebe) is to take the train (which takes fifteen minutes and leaves every fifteen minutes until midnight-ish) to Central Station. At Central, get out, head down the stairs (if I remember correctly where the airport train arrives) and head left at a right angle from how the train arrived, so you end up in the big hall (after going up again). Exit at the far side, make your way down the slope and cross Lee Street to get to the main bus stop. (I'm mostly saying this because the more obvious exit from Central Station would have you end up exiting at Eddy Avenue, and then you'd need to take two lefts down that and Pitt Street to arrive at the same place, which is a bother if you're carrying heavy bags.) Here, I doodled on a google maps view to try and be more clear.
At the bus stop, take bus 431 to Glebe Point, which takes 15 minutes and will deposit you nearly in front of the YHA (next to final stop on its route). This bus goes until midnight as well; every ten minutes up to 21:13, then every half hour starting from 21:33.
In the evenings you can also take bus 432 (to Birchgrove), which is spaced conveniently halfway between the 431 buses and goes most of the way up Glebe Point Road, but turns left two (?) blocks before the YHA. I believe that side road was Wigram Road, but just ask the driver to warn you at the last stop before he leaves Glebe Point Road.
If for some reason you really don't want to wait for the bus (or if your flight was delayed a couple of hours and you miss the last bus), then right there at Central Station there's two other YHAs (Railway Square and Central), as well as the Wake Up! - you can't miss them.

Taxi's are cheapish but for your first night the city central hostels have $12.50 shuttles that you can pre-arrange. Then move to Glebe the next day, its only $12 from the bottom end of George where Wake Up, Raliway and Central YHA and 790 on George all are.
Thanks for your replies they are very helpful. Hopefully after my long flight I can get somewhere quick and get a good night sleep. Then start to get my bearings in the morning. You don’t happen to know which ones of the hostels you mentioned include a breakfast?
I had a delightful bout of jetlag when I arrived! Choose a hostel with v late checkout/early check in...or just arrange early check in...2pm NOT the bst thing when you arrive at 7am!!
Twas horrible...imagine sea legs mixed with super fast elevator jelly legs ALL day! Made my Chemical Brothers concert VERY interesting later that evening!!!
This time of year, it shouldnt be AS difficult as summer time just randomly booking hostels.I would recommend taking out YHA membership now tho to get the discounts in advance!
See you soon... I may even still be at Glebe YHa when you show up at the rate I am going!
