Travel Forums Travel Gear Best bag for Thailand in July?

Greetings all,

I am planning a 5 week long journey through Thailand and perhaps Indonesia. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to offer in regard to what type of backpack to buy. I am considering buying a pretty large travel pack, then bringing along a small nylon bag for day trips and such. Is this a good idea? Any (constructive) advice is greatly appreciate :)

You shouldn't need an enormous bag. You're probably taking way too much stuff. You'll quickly grow to hate your bag if it's too heavy and you'll probably start dumping stuff along the way.

Get something smaller.

Look for a backpack with 35 to 45 liters of packing space. That is 2135 cubic in to 2750 cubic in. Make sure the backpack has some sort of ventilation system on the back.

I like the Deuter Futura system for travelling in hot countries like Thailand.

You don't need a large backpack. Bring enough clothes for a week and wash them when they get dirty. Your 2-3 shorts and 4-5 t-shirts plus undies don't take up that much space, so no need to take everything but the kitchen sink.

Some people manage to carry everything they need for a trip to Thailand in a 25-30 liters backpack - that is about the size of a college bookbag. Go figure.
