Any last minute info or anything, mainly what to take to Australia for a year?. my mind has become blank! not a hint of being nervous just excitement for what lies ahead.

when are you going? I arrive in sydney april 3rd.

I packed clothes, camera, laptop, contacts, glasses, nice shoes, a nice shirt that looks good wrinkled hehe, guide books, sketch book, pens...people always forget pens I don't know why. You can travel with 5 people and there will always be a moment when you are all scrambling to find a pen. oh and then cram clean underwear and socks where ever they fit. oh and a little travel pouch for laundrey stuffs, like a clothesline small thing of soap. And of course don't forget your ID and all that stuff.

what am I missing? oh sunglasses, shorts, more clean underwear, alarm clock, a phone that works down there, sleeping pills for the plane

Oh and since I'm going to NZ for a year after australia so I also packed a bunch of clean clothes and other things into a couple boxes so I can have family members ship them to me when I get settled in NZ. I figure at some point I'm going to want to wear clean clothes

I've considered taking a laptop but not sure whether it would be worth the hassle. If I'm going to be in and out of hostels I would want to keep valuable things to a minimum. There is the advantage of having it for travelling long distances, writing blogs, pics etc but wondering whether its an extra thing I don't really need. Any views on this?

yeah I know what you mean I wish I could just leave it behind, but I'm a graphic designer so it's a must for me. I need it to update my resume and portfolio and look for work. I figure I can use it to look online for hostels and attractions as well.

TBH, I have barely used my laptop...mostly because the wireless is not configured correctly for the hostel I am in. Its stayed in my room locker for a week now and as the USBs dont work in the hostel computers then my cunning idea of using my laptop to write my epic emails (in my freetime) to then pop online in a short space of time isnt currently working!

well the lap top was a no for me in the end. my phone can do everyhing that id need a lap top for and has wirless so will be free aswell. i could see me loosing a laptop or something else stupid. my trip isint totally about hardcore back packing. i am going to brig a holdall as i will be stayin some places forma length of time and i enjoy going out a bit so decided on a holdall for more stuff and a back pack for dirty clothes till can get washed. again my phone is a good camera and music player so crossed out laptop camera and mp3 player in 1 which is ideal. plenty underwear is defo on the cards. what about like warmer tops like a few hoodies? is that reccomended?i know it will be warm most of time but for at night etc? another thing i have been wondering is about football. is there many places to catch the scotish SPL and the Europen games? my team are doing well on that front and would like to keep with it. Anyone thinking of the laptop ised might want to look into a pockets pc or the likes more ofte nthan not yo uhave a good camera music and internet in one, i know i dont ahve extra cash for things like that before i go but if anyone is not going for abit it might be a good idea.
