First night in Lima - where should we stay?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean First night in Lima - where should we stay?

Hi all,

We're looking to book somewhere to stay when we arrive in Lima in May - we'd like somewhere that's easy to get to from the airport but equally easy to explore Lima from...and not too pricey! Any recommendations?

Thanks!

best and safest places to stay in Lima are in Miraflores.
Miraflores has many restaurants, bars and you can walk to the Larcomar shopping center overlooking the ocean, walking to the big Indio market.
look at the accomodation site here at TP,you will find a lot of hostals for Lima.
I stayed a few times at Kusillus, great place to spend a few days.

depending on what you like miraflores may not be for you. Its not a true representation of Lima, very americanized and the rates although still quite cheap and expensive by south american standards.
You can just as easy get a cheap hotel in the dead centre of lima, 5 mins walk from the plaza de major (or is it armas), this is just as safe, try the kamana hotel this is where i stayed for a period.

Or for the true latin american feel, go to barranco, a 5 min taxi journey from miraflores, where many of the middle class locals live. Very friendly atmosphere, safe and plentiful of good bars and restaurants (especially if you likre oful lol)

Any more info wanted just get in touch
