I'm heading to Sydney by myself, what would be the better hostel if you're lookng to hook up with other travellers for a RTW adveture? These seem to be the best 2 recommended, any experiences? I'm 24 & Irish.

stay at both. I have a few dates set up at like four different hostels throughout sydney in the coming weeks.

I was in the same situation. In the end i just booked both for a week. I did the Centre one first, my thinking was it would be very easy to find. I've read that alot of people would recommend the Glebe YHA and the general area its in.

You want Irish, homely, family like and friendly? Then head to Glebe!

I have been there for over 2 weeks and it is the loveliest hostel. Lots of English, Irish and plenty of other nationalities short term and long term. And if you stay longer, it takes less than 5 days to settle in and be accepted as a long stayer. I actually dont think I will move on to a flat now as I am really enjoying the varied day to day existence but with the settled folk around to be able to say hello to each evening.

Its not the biggest of social organising hostels but its a good home. If you stay for a while you may get moved from room to room each week but thats ok.

City Central is just too big to make true acquaintances AND its in the city 9well George St which is crazy enough). In Glebe you can see the city and get there in 15 mins on the bus but its a lovely villagey world all to itself with decent bottle shops and excellent restaurants the length of the whole road. The better supermarket is on Broadway and after a week you will get nicely settled. If you want to party there are plenty of folk (especially the Irish) who will head to Scruffy Murphy's most nights...only a $20 taxi home! If you want cheap nights out the pubs have lots of deals as well.

I will say though, I havent seen many folk who are moving on and at Central you may find more of the moving on types due to the travel board.

I would say do Central for a short while then head to Glebe to check us out and then make your decision which is better for you.

See you soon. I will still be there in 3 weeks at least!
