Travel Forums Europe how to travel from Helsinki to Turku?

Hi everybody,

I will spend some days in Turku (Finland) for a meeting.
I checked out the flights from Zurich to Helsinki and from Zurich directly to Turku (the more expensive version). If I would chose the way via Helsinki, how can I get to Turku? Is there a bus or a train direction? Is the journey worth concerning the landscape? What else can you recommend visiting in Turku? I heard that the Cathedral and the Castle should be worth a visit?
Thanks for you help....

Hi Sandra,

I took an IC train from Helsinki to Turku, and it took about 2 hrs (if I remember correctly :)). The ride was fine.
Ask for me, I liked the riverside in Turku (there was a certain boat exhibition at that time). The castle is nice and in a good shape, though I found the interior a bit empty.

Yes you remember correctly. Well not that I was there with you, but my trainride from Helsinki to Türkü also took two hours, which I spend talking to a girl that lives in Helsinki, and studied in Türkü.

I only was there for an afternoon and one morning (of which I spend the afternoon sleeping (after 4 nights without a lot of sleep in Helsinki, in a terrible hostel, I had the privacy of a hotelroom, with a prefect bed), and seeing the Castle. And spending the morning walking across town, seeing the Cathedral, and walking around the rest of town, and making a visit to one of the bigger shops, to buy shoes. (I needed to) From the riverbank, you can climb a little hill (or rather it's more like wall) on the side the Cathedral is on, but more towards the Sea, where you can have a nice view over the town.

It's not a town in which you need a lot of time to see it, but I liked the atmosphere. If you have time left, you might consider taking a trip to Tampere (should be around 2 hours by train.)

Maybe you can check flying into Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and fly to Türkü, with Blue1. They are the cheapo sister of SAS, but not always that cheap. Maybe you are lucky to find a good price.

Thanks for your reply!
Already checked out the flights with blue1, but seems that I have no luck for a cheap flights for Turku. Will therefore fly first to Helsinki and then go further by train
Looking forward to the atmosphere in Turku...:)
