Is the weather in Thailand ok for travel in July? I hear mixed reports.

Depends on which coast. I'll be there in July, and it's best to stay on the east coast, like in Koh Samui. Phuket is experiencing the monsoon at that time, but the east coast will be fine, with good diving and snorkeling.

Or rather, that's what I hear.

June/July is a hit and miss regarding weather patterns. Last year I experienced no great climate inconvienance until I visited Phuket as it rained most of the 3 days I was there. Yet the year before had great weather in Phuket but was rained out for my 3 days in Krabi. Luck of the draw offset by cheap accommodation rates being low season.

The weather from my experiences is usually wet and cloudy. I was at Bangkok and Phuket last year in July and the year before in June and the weather was not great. Nice and warm but the suns wasnt out alot of the time. Mind you, its no constantly like that and you may have a bit of luck.

Hit the Gulf side for decent weather that time of year .
