Best way to get to Cuba from US

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Best way to get to Cuba from US

Hi everyone

Trying to plan to get to Cuba later in the year from NYC. Obviously, I know it's not possible to fly directly from the US to Cuba, so wondering if someone can recommend best way to do this.

I'm leaning towards flying to Mexico and then maybe getting an extra flight from there. I haven't checked flight costs or anything like that yet, so just interested to hear what all the seasoned TPers have to say first.

Any advice appreciated! :)

Thanks,

Evelyn

If you make it to Cuba make sure they do not stamp your passport. Slide a piece of paper and $10.USD into your passport and say to stamp the paper please. US Immigration might see the stamp in your passport and you'll be in trouble. Visiting Cuba for a few days is not worth the trouble and fines you could get if you get caught.

I went around with a Cuba stamp in my Canadian passport and never had any trouble going through the States. So very many Canadians visit Cuba--I can't see how the U.S. would start to discriminate.

Oh--unless you mean if you have a U.S. passport. I do believe samsara2 has an irish one, though.

Since they said they were leaving from NY and mentioned needing to go from Mexico etc. I guessed they were Americans. They did not say if they were or not. Canadians can go with no trouble as it is not against the law for them. For Americans it is against the law.

Not at all true-it's against the law for US Americans to spend money there not travel.
