Myself and a few friends are planning to take two weeks to travel Italy in September. We'd like to visit Rome, Florence and Pisa but were wondering where else people would recommend. Could maybe go up north to Venice, Milan etc or head to a coast for a few days on the beach. Amy help would be really appreciated.
Yes to Venice! It's a city like no other.
And try the Amalfi coast, if you have time. Wonderful beaches and scenery, plus it's close to Capri, Pompeii, Naples, etc.
Enjoy your trip!
id say skip pisa..... what a waste of time!! but if you must go there, make it a day trip, even a half day trip - it wont take you long!!
id take 3 or 4 days in rome, and i would definately check out the amalfi coast, if you can take the ferry to Ischia, one of the islands, its MUCH cheaper than capri and i stayed in the BEST hostel ever - the ring hostel. they really look after you, take you to mamma and pappas restuarant and sometimes take you to the hot springs at night if the weather permits! its just gorgeous!!
i would personally skip milan, unless you wanted to see the cathedral which is the 3rd (??) biggest in the world - its really impressive but thats about the only thing i liked about it... go to lake como instead, make a day trip to switzerland and see the difference almost immediately as you cross the border (the swiss seem much neater and tidier than the italians!!).
i loved venice, go there!! just make sure you find out the prices before you order a coffee or something, that place can be ridiculously expensive!!!
