Myself and a couple of friends are going to NZ for a month from mid June, we are going to hire a campervan and travel around tyring to see as much as possible, we want to have a go at snowboarding in the south island, we fly into Christchurch, are there any slopes that anyone would suggest? we will have the van so would be looking for somewhere with camp sites near by etc. ....

There's a few winter resorts on the South Island and the closest to Christchurch is Mt. Hutt. But if you have a van and want to see as much as possible the area around Queenstown/Wanaka (Coronet Peak, Remarkables) might be even nicer. Not sure if you will be able to camp though, it does get quite cold at this time of the year and it is also advisable to book ahead your accomodation because the towns get really busy in winter. Maybe have a look at NZ ski to find out more about the slopes closer to the day.

I was in NZ last year around the same time and we went skiing a Coronet Peak down in Queenstown. We had asked around to see which was the best between the Remarkables, Coronet Peak, and there is a thir mountain in the area as well, we got good reviews about all 3 for the most part.

I'm hoping to get some snowboarding in too. Im here now and just bought a campervan. I leave at the end of June, so if your interested in buying a cheap van from me instead of renting, then stay in touch!

Thanks but i think as we're only there for a month we are going to rent a van, i dont want to risk not being able to sell it at the end of our stay. Thanks for the thought though :)
