Hi Helen,

For existing photos, go to your private photo gallery (this link is the same for everyone and basically where you start editing). Next to each photo, among others, you'll see a link to Edit information. Click on that for the photos you want to make private and untick the last checkbox "Tick this if you want this photo to show in your photo gallery." and hit save. If you do it for all your photos, your gallery won't be public.

When uploading the same checkbox should be there. Just untick it before uploading and the photos won't show in your gallery.

Sam

Note that Sam's method will disable anyone but yourself from seeing the photos - there is no way to make the photos visible only to a limited audience, or to password protect your photos or anything like that.
(You can also choose to not have the photo featured on the entire site; that means that the only way to see them would be by going through your profile - but anyone could still do that.)

Just to clarify that, as the email notification of Sander's post says something different than the edited post (wonder if we should do something about how that works). If you untick the check box I mentioned, the photos will NOT show on your profile. If you do this with all your photos, there in fact won't be a link to your photo gallery on your profile anymore.

But like Sander mentions, it's not quite the same as password protecting the area if that is what you're after :(

Yeah, I misread which checkbox you were talking about when I first wrote my post.

Interesting conundrum on email notifications - we could wait an hour before sending them, to make certain we have the most recent version? (Would also cut down on notifications for posts made by spammers.) But on the other hand, an hour's delay is quite a long time...

Hiyas, I have a couple of profile-only photos (ie. thumbnails) for use in my profile. Due to the size & use of these thumbnails I don't want these displayed in my public gallery... what combination of ticks in the following boxes should I use to achieve this?

[ ]Allow Featuring Tick this if it's ok for us to feature this photo on Travellerspoint.
[ ]Show in Gallery If you untick this, the photo won't show in your public gallery

I have tried multiple combinations but nothing seems to work? I had successfully set this up previously, but something seems to have changed...

Just making sure the latter of the two, ie. Show in Gallery, is unticked does the trick (although you might as well untick the first one too as tiny photos wouldn't be featured). For example, this twitter logo doesn't show in my gallery (normally it would be at the top as it's the last one I uploaded).

Thanks Sam, I left both unticked & they don't appear in the public galley, which is good... but they don't appear as my profile photo's either, not so good... I get the message "joffre hasn't uploaded a picture for their profile yet" in place of the profile photo...

Hmm, interesting! Looks like something might have changed to allow the profile photo to only be one that is showing in the gallery as well. I'll double check if there is any reason for this, but I can't think of one (at least not one that can't be resolved otherwise)...

Ok, I made this work now. Agreed that that should be possible. Only problem is now when you click on the photo, it redirects back to the main photography page, because that photo wasn't public after all.
