I am looking to do a round the world trip starting Januray 09 for around 6 months leaving from the UK. Looking for any advice at all such as where to go? what company to use? I am going with my girlfriend and we would be on a smallish budget. Any advice appreciated.
If you guys plan on taking an airplane, I recommend taking Cathay Pacific because the service is excellent. With that being said, Hong Kong is a good place to sightsee because Lantau Island I heard is a beautiful place with magnificent landscaping. Not only that, you could do endless shopping there, especially in Mong Kok, and Tsim Sha Tsui.
Not quite sure what you plan on doing during this trip but:
For Shopping - Italy, France, basically Europe
Sightseeing - Europe and some parts of Asia (Malaysia, Philippines)
Hope this helps
i would start by called trailfinders and travelbag and getting some quotes for the route you want to do. once yo know roughly how much your flights are going to cost you can then start planning the budget for the rest of your trip. if you are under 26 STA travel may also have some good deals.
wow 6 months... that's a long time huh...okay here's what I can recommend which I've been to myself...
In Asia, I'd say don't miss the Great Wall of China....
In Vietnam, you can visit Ha Long Bay, you can try to look for Handspan, that's where we got our travel package back in 2003.
In Malaysia, you can visit KL and Putrajaya.
In Singapore, there's a lot of places to see but the city is a bit expensive but a 4 days is enough to see them with proper itinerary.
In the Philippines, you can visit a number of islands like Boracay, Palawan, Bohol and Cebu.. all offers great beaches and diving spots... Palawan offers other nature wonders... there is also the Banaue Rice Terraces....aside from those, you can visit the historic cities of Vigan, Manila, Corregidor, or Zamboanga...
Flying around southeast asia, you can opt to use Cebu Pacific Air, Tiger Airways or Air Asia.. all offer cheap tickets around the region...
