ahafys has indicated that this thread is about Ecuador

Me and my girlfriend are travelling in Peru at the moment and want to go north to Ecuador and Columbia,- maybe even Venezuela. All officiel sources say it's a bad idea, but they've been saying that forever. Is anybody there now, and has anyone crossed borders lately. Any recommendations ??

As long as you steer clear of the densely forested border area between the two countries in the northeast, you should be absolutely fine. Not sure which official sources you refer to, but bear in mind that esp. US and UK government warnings tend to be overly cautious (EU countries are usually slightly more realistic about threats).
