We traveled for nine days in Turkey last summer with our adult children. We visited Izmir, Cappadocia, and Istanbul. The people in the areas we visited were friendly and helpful. You have to be cautious in the cities, as you would in the US cities. Izmir and Istanbul are very cosmopolitan with a variety of cultural influences. Both Middle Eastern and Western European dress is common. The history of Turkey is very rich and interesting. We particularly enjoyed touring Cappadocia and the ruins of Ephesus near Izmir.
You can check with the US State Department for any warnings, but you should have a great time. The food is great, BTW.
