Wondered if people can offer any suggestions of places to stay at a low cost in NY?
16th June-20th June
Not a hostel
Dont mind shared bathroom facilities if need be
Good location for travelling (I found a few in Newark but i guess that will add a fair amount of travelling time to and from central NY, as in the ESPN sports bar and time square and other such sites)
Also is there any recommendations for where to leave my hire car for this period?
I'm not sure how low a price you would want. Radio City Apartments is in a great location and may be less than others in the area. Perhaps an outer borough such as Queens or Brooklyn can give you a lower price and a convenient train ride. Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Rego Park, Forest Hills, and Kew Gardens are considered very nice areas.
Fort Lee, NJ is right over the George Washington Bridge. There is a bus that goes to 42nd Street as well as 175th Street where you can the take the A train into the city.
Try Vanderbilt YMCA - google it. There are private rooms available and it's decent enough. The bathrooms are shared but clean. I stayed here for 2 weeks a few years ago and can't complain at all. Better than staying out in New Jersey and it's in Midtown too.
Sounds like you're British? Careful with NYC - very very expensive place! I certainly can't afford it. I would suggest staying in Brooklyn and using the subway. As for a car - you don't need it while you're in town, so turn it in, and rent again when you leave.
