Hi friends,
I am considering hiring a vehicle from Mestre and driving to/from our accomodation in Marostica which is about 70km (45miles) North East.
We arrive Mestre 16:30 on a Sunday and estimate the trip will be about 90 minutes!!...mind you this will be my first time driving on the RHS side of the road so I will be taking it easy.

My main issue is the return trip on Thursday morning (29th May), to arrive at Mestre for checkin at 11:30am. How is weekday traffic and any suggested roads or towns that I should not use or bypass to avoid bottlenecks? Also how much travel time to allow for a week day morning ?

Cheers
Mario

Hi Mario,

I have checked this route and there are 56,42 mi (90,8 km) from Mestre to Marostica and it takes more than an hour to get to. You have to take highway A4 direction Venice(Mestre) - Milano. There is always a lot of traffic on that highway specially before so called "Bariera di Mestre" which means the entrance to the highway. The only advantage is that there are no heavy trucks on Sunday on the highway. Maybe on the way back from Marostica you will find much more traffic specially heavy tracks. I suggest you to use only the right line of A4 highway.
Here is the route map of Mestre - Marostica by Google which can help you. You can stamp it.

Best regards,
Milos Pero

Hi,

as I live in Veneto region, I'm quite aware of traffic issues in my area...
If I should drive from Mestre to Marostica, I would probably first follow A4 motorway (direction: Milano), then take motorway A31 from Vicenza to Thiene. From there, there's a wide and straight road taking you to Marostica. This is NOT the shortest way, but probably the fastest, considering that you would drive most of the time on motorways.
As an alternative, you could follow A4 motorway to Padova Ovest, and from there take SR47 (Regional Road) northbound.
Take a look at http://www.viamichelin.it/ (available in English too) to look for suggested itineraries and alternatives.

As for your doubts about the return trip, do you mean you have to be the airport by 11.30? 11 am is not a critical time for traffic at Barriera di Mestre (toll barrier) of A4 motorway: you shouldn't find queues at that time of the day...
That said, you never know: a small accident on the motorway is enough to slow down traffic a lot... If I was you I would consider 1h30 / 1h45 to go from Marostica to Venice airport...
If I can help you further plase write me!
