Hey folks, i'm heading out to cairns this tuesday, to say i'm nervous is an under statement, so worried about losing my pack in heathrow, then the whole being on my own when i get to oz is daunting, but exciting at the same time.

so if anyones out there it'b awesome to chat over a cold beer!!

Hey Gav,
Dont be nervous, Australia's a pretty laid back kinda place ;)
Im not in Cairns, but I live in Townsville, so if you find yerself down this way - drop me a line, Im always up for a beer
And also, if you wanna know about some nice places between here and Cairns, I know of a couple (got photo's of some of them in my gallery actually).

Anyway, good luck!

If you've got the time and the means, make sure you stop over in Mission Beach and stay at "The Treehouse" hostel at Bingil Bay! Its one of the best hostels in Australia IMO. Beautiful big Balinese style timber house, set up on poles and surrounded by rainforest.. its well worth the trip.

If your travelling by bus Greyhound/McCafferty's they stop in Mission Beach anyway (all the signs at the bus stop say Wongaling beach, so dont be confused ;) )
And most of the hostels in the area run free Courtesy buses that you will see waiting at the terminal.. just jump on the one that says "Treehouse". They run these buses to and from the hostel to meet each coach that comes in so you dont need to worry about getting back in time and you can also use them to go on shopping runs or to get into town when you feel like it.

Oh and regarding the heat in Cairns, I used to work as a labourer on construction sites up there, so I know how you feel... I dont think I've ever sweated so much in my life!
While Townsville is still hot, its not as humid, so some people find it a bit more tolerable.

Take care, maybe see ya soon for a bevvie!;)
