my extrodinarily generous dad and step-mum decided to buy me, as a surprise for Christmas, a Jalan 65+15 Berghaus backpack.

I was thrilled... but... it's pretty massive. I don't think I can fill it all, and it weighs 4.8 kgs without anything in it! I have a total baggage allowance of 20kgs.

I'm going to the Amazon jungle for 3 months, and I won't be trekking every day, all the time, but I wanted people's opinions on this weight. It does come with wheels though...

I'll reply in advance to the 'you should have gone out and got it yourself comment' - yeah, I would have done, but a free backpack, no matter how big? I think we'd all accept it quietly ;)

Its gargantuan I wouldnt take it with me... Its going to be extremely bulky and impractical, considering that it weights 5 kgs empty...

maybe if you pack really light? my backpack is also a bit heavy by itself, but it works out in the end, since it's fairly durable. and i don't have a lot to put in aside from the basics, too. how heavy are you packing for it? and wheels? are you going to use them at all? in the jungle?

Man that's heavy, my £20 100l rucksac weighs less than 1.5kg, love it.
