Well I have now booked myself in at Glebe right up until I stupidly fly back to Blighty for 2 weeks just for the Glastonbury Festival!
Call them if you want to to speak to them, everyone is so bloody lovely here and we always look forward to newcomers and new faces. Have just spent the past 5 days showing some new arrivals the city and taking them to get their bank, medicare and Taxfile numbers sorted and then we won the local quiz too!
A whole bunch of longtermers left to chase the sun in Cairns this morning...lucky buggers...its been pissing it down here non stop for 10 days now, tis a wee bit depressing in Sydney at the mo.
The number to call directly is 0061 2 96928418 and the staff are very lovely. And as winter is setting in, its not quite as busy anymore.
Central YHA is central and nowhere near as friendly cos its so damn huge. Its convenient but you wont be up til 2am playing free pool, then Twister then a heavy session of Charades on any night! You can get to the city so easily from Glebe but its a wonderful escape from the noise and cityness, and you can see the bridge from the park.
The barby on Friday is held every week, sometimes its moved to a Saturday and its a good way to make new acquaintances and meet the fat possum who comes to join the shenanigans...he is VERY cute. Last Friday, we headed onto the second nearest pub and I bought the group a bottle of bubbly to celebrate their arrival to this soggy land!
A week's rent at Glebe is $175 with a YHA card and unless you go into a shared room with up to 8 people in a citycentre flashy flat its not a bad price tbh. Room sharing with people from all nationalities is a very popular thing here and you can get a bed in the room for only $120. Just book whichever of the two hostels you think will suit you better to start with and the after a couple of weeks you wil be able to make a better judgement of what you want to do with yourself.
The World Youth Day and pope coming to town is definitly something to be aware of though.
Have fun deciding and see you in May/June on the roof terrace.
