By the way, does anybody know if it is wise to prebook accommodation in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park? It seems that those camps are pretty popular and are filling up quickly? I am going there in November, is that high season?
Are there any other places to stay just outside the park maybe?
it's usually a good idea to book accommodation in advance inside any of the parks. you can check out availability and make bookings at: www.sanparks.org. some parks only accept reservations three months in advance, others a year in advance. the good news is that school holidays don't start until december, so getting a booking at the kgalagadi shouldn't be too tough. i recommend staying inside the park as there aren't many options outside of it. the main things to consider are do you have your own car/4x4? are you camping or self-catering units? how long will you be visting? if you'll be staying for more than a night or two, you could stay in a couple different locations getting a much greater sense of the park. if you are driving a 4x4, you will have more options on where you can go inside the park. enjoy, its a great experience! you're going to love it!
Thanks! Yeah, we probably rent a 4x4, much better regarding some roads and for wildlife viewing sometimes as well. I noticed several off the self catering camps, they look great and we want to stay for about 4 nights I guess. Did you stay in the self catering camps? Is they only thing you need just food and water (maybe fuel for the remote ones)? I like the honeymoon suite in the Kalahari Tented Camp...
