Travel Forums Asia Thailand to Australia - Help!!

New to this forum and I am looking forward to finding out as much as possible from everyone and hopefully be able to provide some help and info in return!

My OH and I are planning on emigrating to Oz at the end of the year however we dont want to fly directly there from the UK and miss out on everything in between!! Our plan is to fly into Bangkok and work our way to Oz from there so I have joined this forum to get as much advice/ideas/tips on where to go! Have previously spent a short time in Thailand so am looking forward to spending more time there. We are also thinking of Vietnam and Cambodia as well as working our way down Malaysia before possibly getting into Oz via Bali but this is obviously all subject to change depending on what advice we pick up before then as we are open to all suggestions.

Hoping to fly out at the start of October and possibly travel for 6-8 weeks. I know its not a great amount of time but we want to fit in as much as possible before we reach Oz and have to think of jobs etc!! Its my 30th at the beginning of November so any ideas on where to celebrate/commiserate the end of my twenties would be fantastic! We are also looking at buying some kind of multi stop ticket so it would also be great to hear peoples comments/suggestions on these!

Please feel free to bombard me with as much info, tips, suggestions and experiences as possible!!

Hi bella,

I haven't done it yet but we're planning something similar (in that we'll be travelling the area and ending up in Aus).

You don't have alot of time so I would probably suggest doing Thailand then heading south overland through Malaysia & Singapore.

If you could get more time (a few months perhaps?) then a common route (from my research) is.

Thailand, up north through Laos, down through Vietnam & Cambodia & back into Thailand (basically a big circular route).

Enjoy it & I'm sure someone with more experience / info will chime in. :D

Well the circular route that DoA suggested is actually doable, if you just do key places. Do you have any preferences for what you want to see/do/experience? Also, are you looking at a tight budget or just reasonable pricing?

Have already been to Pattaya, Phuket, Phi Phi, Ko Chang and Krabi - if I returned to any of these it would be the last two. Didn't venture north of Bangkok so would be interested in that also if doable. With regards to Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia, we have not really looked into anywhere inparticular so any suggestions that you have would be welcomed!! We should also be going on a reasonable budget.

I appreciate your input guys!

To maximize your traveling time and that you have not been to Northern Thailand, should be a good idea because post# suggested do a loop. From Chiangrai, you could move over to Luang Prabang (Mekong boat ride), Vietnam and Cambodia then back to Bangkok. Your choice of air, boat or road is possible. Since your progress is smooth you are saving time. If you are budget conscious (share the food cost only), you may opt to stay with the locals before continuing on your travels.
