Is wanting to travel all the time just a phase? Is this somthing you grow out of?
Do the more mature people that have travelled alot when they are younger feel the same about travel now?
Do you get the same excitement and buzz of a new adventure and new destination?

I've moved this thread from Off Topic to General Talk because I think it is an interesting one and this is the best place for it. Enjoy the discussion!!!

good question! i mean i thought after a year being in australia would be enough for me then i would come back, get a job and settle. ended up staying in auz for 16 mths and now back at my hoem in wales decding whether i am going to go back and travel again! its wierd - for me travelling is really scary but whats even more scary is settling down and staying put! cant imagine getting used to being home long term!

my desire to travel has increased as I have got older, and my list of places I want to go to just keeps growing! I think perhaps the manner in which I travel may change ie, i spent several months travelling round australia a few years ago and stayed in dorms, but now i wouldn't particulalry relish the thought of so long in dorms again and would alternate it with staying in hotels sometimes perhaps, or by just taking shorter trips. I also think now I would read up a lot more on the history, culture etc of a place before i went, than i did when i was younger and am now probably a more reponsbible traveller as I'm more aware of global issues or the situation in a particular country.

I do still get the same excitement out of a new destination- if not more so!

and TP helps to fuel my addiction :)

The older I get, the simpler travel becomes. I'm more and more at ease trying new things, seeing new places, finding good deals, being more and more adventurous... I don't see it as a phase so much as a hobby--something I have a passion for and want to invest in. I don's see mysel ever wanting to stop.

Not a phase.... A lifestyle...

I think travelling gets better the older you get. When you are young.....well, I mean when I was young... whenever I went abroad I was really just on holiday to drink and find nice girls etc etc, but now I am far more interested in actually travelling and really seeing the countries that I travel to. I also now travel further afield and probably have more money to go to nicer places than I had when I was young. I am 39 now so I suppose when I was 18 all my travel was either by coach or car around europe, however now I travel around the world for far cheaper than anyone could ever have imagined back when I was 18!!! So perhaps it is the fact that travel is now a lot different to back then that it seems more exciting to me as it is something that could never have been thought possible back in the day. Perhaps if you are 18 years old and you and all your friends have already done your RTW trip then perhaps travel will not have the same appeal anymore, but certainly for me it is still just F****** amazing!!!!
For example this year I have been to Holland (for about the 20th time) Philippines (twice and going back again soon, a great country) Hong Kong (blew my mind!), Qatar (just for half a day), Spain (twice, Santiago De Compostella and Santander) Greece (2 islands) and Turkey and I loved every minute of every one of those places.

So what we have discovered so far is that its an exciting passion for an addictive hobby & lifestyle that gets better with age! So not a phase it seems as of yet, better not tell Mum im an addict!!
