No. Bankruptcy and everything pertaining to it is not part of IATA's mission, mostly because these things are subject to national legislation. It's up to national authorities and consumer organisations to prevent such scandals as with Nation Wide from happening.

KLM and Air France are NOT taking over the near bankrupt Alitalia.
they say after talks with the carriers unions there are not existing conditions for further negotiations.

I wouldn't be too sure about that yet, Marlis. 'sources from within KLM's hq' (i.e., a friend of mine) tell me that it isn't over yet. Even though all negotations have officially been cut off, in reality they rather seem to have been put on hold.

I purchased tickets last month for travel at the end of June 2008 they have not charged my credit card should I be worried about not having a flight in June.

Should I consider booking on another Airline and asking my credit card company to refuse payment?

Will they come after me for the money shuold they still be in business in June.

HELP!!!!

Thanks in advance

If they're still in business by then, of course they'll come after you. What you should do, is see if you can cancel the ticket.

Well the original posters tickets in June should be fine, I would not recommend Alitalia at this point. They have said that come Monday, they might have to cancel flights because they can't afford to purchase fuel. At this point, it appears that there is little that the Italian government can do to keep Alitalia afloat, and there is no airline which appears likely to come in and purchase Alitalia. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend getting tickets on them in the future, unless conditions change.

Alitalia did not go under. The airline was saved by a last minute agreement by investors, the government and the airline. Alitalia will be flying in December, do not worry.
