evening all...i'm aiming to begin my travels in 2009 i've never been abroad so very excited but not sure where i want to start! i was thinking europe would be the best as it's near to home and i'll probably be travelling alone.
so i'd like to know what routes people took, your favourite countries etc. also is it worth getting the inter rail pass?
cheers for any info, sorry it's a bit vague 8)

hi caiti,

the railpasses are useful, but it depends on where you're going, how you're going, for how long, what your budget is, etc, etc. there's many to choose from, so it would take a bit of thought.

if you're starting off in europe, i don't know what to tell you, since everyone likes something else...i don't know what you really want to see. but here are my two cents. slovenia, a small and charming country - i visited there several years ago on a family roadtrip and i really liked it. beautiful scenery, kind place i liked there were the Postojna Caves - it costs a bit to take the tour, i think, but it's just brilliant inside - and there's a lizard resides only in those caves...i found that really neat. and then there's the famous lake bled, of course...well, yeah. i liked it.

good luck in your planning :)

yeah i guess i'll have to plan where i'm going first, if there a reasonable price though i'd probably just get one anyway.
thankyou for the info, i'll look into slovenia i'm all for the scenery and little remote places, but then i'd quite like to visit the big cities too but spend less time in them.... hmm i've got loads of planning to do! haha 8)
