I'm 17 years old, Australian and would like to travel to Singapore and Malaysia without a parent or guardian. Neither of these countries require tourist visas for Australians, so will I be accepted into the country when I am 17. The flight is not a problem, I am only worried about being refused into the country. I'd like to fly into Singapore and cross into Malaysia. If anyone could enlighten me it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

Mo

I cannot find anything specific to your query but you might look at the following and see if it's of any help, the first link doesn't sound very optimistic. The second link is a bit more encouraging. I'd imagine that as long as you keep to the rules of where you go you shouldn't have a problem. Have fun

Hi,

You should have no problem. As long as you have the necessary papers, they will allow you entry. Although the embarkation form do ask for various information like where you will be staying etc., you can just give a general answer if you don't have a confirmed booking in a hotel / hostel. However, I do encourage you to book your accommodation for Singapore ahead of time, as it may be difficult to find reasonably-priced accommodation on the spot during peak tourist season.

As for going to Malaysia through Singapore, you shouldn't have any problem either. Hundreds of primary school kids cross the causeway everyday to get to and from school.

Hope this helps! :)

Where did you travel to? I'd like to go to Laos and Myanmar this year too and am also worried about my age being a problem there.

Thanks for the replies, guys. You've been very helpful.

Hi,

At 17, you really don't have to worry much about travelling in SE Asia. I went to Myanmar on my own after I turned 16, no problems there.

Can't speak for Laos, but if Thailand doesn't have that problem, I don't see why Laos would. Then again, the part on Laos is just my logic.

Hey, what a coincidence - most of my time was spent in these two countries which i feel were the highlights of SEAn travel No, absolutely no problems at all.

Happy travels

Great. Looks like I'll be able to see all the countries I want to.

I forgot to ask about Cambodia though. No problems there either?
