Hi,

To fully appricate Vietnam you need about 3 weeks to travel the whole coast. It has so many nice town, including Hanoi.
If you only have 5 weeks to cover a large area of SEA, then i would consider doing Laos for 10 days - 2 weeks.
Laos was my favourite country last time i travelled. Its very chilled out, great people and nice beer!

However, keep Vietnam 'bookmarked' because it would be a shame to miss it. Can you not extend your trip?

Happy travelling!

Hi jadeverell,

10 days sounds a little steep though, especially when I have 2 more other countries in mind...
And if I have the opportunity for an extended my trip, i'd jump at it - even if for an extra day!

And DieuThuy,

I'll definitely give you an email when i do visit Vietnam in the not too distant future - It's a place I really want to go. Thanks for your offer though - it does sound very ideal!

Thanks all

benn i've travelled vietnam, laos, thailand and cambodia and by far the most interesting and exciting city is saigon!!it has great sights cu chi tunnels, zoo, royal palace etc and in my opinion the better nightlife than any other city ive visited by far and it's easier to cross the road than hanoi and the people are slightly more friendly in general!

I've come to the conclusion that there are 2 types of people in this world - those that like Saigon and those that like Hanoi! I imagine that were I 20 years old, I too would prefer Saigon for it's electricity! I'm a geezer, 64, so I prefer Hanoi and the north. They're both fascinating cities, but different. It's really the people in Vietnam that make it so special (not the places).

I am of the Hanoi Variety.......

Relaxed, cheap beer (6p) and great scenery! Gets my choice every time.

why do you need to go to citys???

there is the 4000 islands in loas which is amazing and loads to see without going near a city, great if you had time to head to vang vienne and do a big circle bangkok - siem reap- PP - Laos - 4000 islands - vientian - vaing vienne - LP - chang mai - BK. Thats my advise. Done all those places recently and higly recomend them. People have a misconception that the best places to see are the citys
