I was wondering if anyone has any experience house sitting for people for a period of time to stay in a country or different state. I am interested in this because I would like to save my money for other things during my travels, and not throw it away on hotels and hostels. I have house-sat before, and am good at it, taking care of things and being very clean. How do you go about finding houses to sit?
I am first planning a trip to Thailand this summer with my girlfriend, so house sitting might be helpful there. But also, more importantly, I will be going to school in Boston this fall, and I have to pay my tuition, which is a lot. I would rather take care of someone's home, rather than pay tuition money towards rent.
Thank you everyone,
Any help would be much appreciated?
I realise this is a late reply but I found a site yesterday called mindmyhouse. It's a free house-sitting service which I too am interested in doing.
My only concern is that the supply seems much greater than demand....there are loads of registered house-sitters but not very many houses to sit!
I think I'll give it a go anyway. There is an annual registration fee of £10.
I'd be interested to hear if any one on here has used the site??
BTW - I've been trawling through really old posts (as you do, bored at work!) and found your post last year about going RTW with only 2k. Is that still on?? I would love to know how you get on! I'm planning on spending as much time as I can travelling on only £4000, but I will work, couchsurf, volunteer etc, just to stretch the funds!

I do housesitting to get around and can normally find a place by looking on craigslist.org in the gigs section
I have so far housesat 14 homes in the USA alone.. Put your own ad up in the area you want to be and see what happens ..You may be surprised...Good Luck
