I want to spend a while in Sydney, and want to rent a flat for around 3 months, but it is soooo expensive, and gumtree has in my experience been full of perves; any ideas on how to find a reasonably priced ie market rent one bedroom flat? I'm not being picky, but it would be nice to be close to a few bars/restaurants that kind of thing.
Hey when I was living in Sydney for a few months I found realestate.com.au to be a helpful site. They have share apartments and rentals, also check the Sydney paper for some real estate classifieds as well.
Domain.com.au is the local Sydney Morning Herald official website.
You can get a nice rented room in a smart shared house with plenty of very normal and nice locals with flatmatefinder as well. Might be a cheaper, better option and the people in Balmain are very smart and sane!
Or easyroommate.com.au is reasonable...but a lot of people seem to have 'clothing optional' as a requirement!
Checkout the Goldsborough Apartments if you can too. Or any of the serviced apartments in Sydney.
Or TheFurnishedPropertyGroup...although they are not as smart as they seem.
I have given up on looking myself though here now and am staying at my hostel now til June as its just a lot easier and friendlier that way.
Happy househunting. If you need anymore info PM me?
There was a super depressing article in the Sunday Herald here last week, there is basically BUGGER all available to realistically rent on your own in the city. Only 1% of all the property is available...apparently. And if you are a student expect to potentially live in a slum with up to 12 other folk in one flat! I know that s a bit sacremongering and the reality isnt quite as bad as all that but its still quite a mre finding a rent here.
Flatmatefinder is a very good bet although some hostel chums of mine did just find a nice little number in Surry Hills with The Furnished Property Group. And that is near the pubs, clubs and bars.
