Is it possible to change dates with Iberia?

Travel Forums General Talk Is it possible to change dates with Iberia?

Hello everyone,

Im currently in Peru and planned to stay until September 2008, but i now have to return to the UK in June...so ive sent an email to Iberia who have a branch in San Isidro Lima, and they say yes its possible to change my inbound flight dates but it will cost me 100 dollars plus tax (134 altogether), which i expected to be honest....so yesterday i went to try and find the office but as it was on the ninth floor and seemingly impossible to get to i had to give up.

However i know exactly where the Iberia office is at the Jorge Chavez Airport and wondered if its possible to make the changes there instead? Has anyone made similar changes with Iberia flights here in Lima and was it as easy as handing over the penalty fee and showing your passport or do i need to be aware of other things?

Secondly, the ticket will be from Lima to Madrid, then Madrid to London (with a 2 hour gap in between the Madrid and London flight) and my question is, is it possible to leave the airport at Madrid, passing through security, or would i have to remain in an area and take the connecting flight without leaving? My reasoning is that if i feel exhausted at Madrid would it be possible to leave the airport, sleep off jetlag in a hotel and book a single flight the next day to complete the journey?

Any feedback appreciated, many thanks

John

Hi John,

I would try to get my flights changed in Lima airport on a day before flying out. I found the Iberia staff in Lima very unhelpful after i tried to catch our flight from Lima to Mexico City...basically they took us out of our international line queue and placed us into the domestic queue only to tell us that we could not check in to our INTERNATIONAL flight from the domestic queue after they had directly placed us there...anyway basically we were told we had 'missed' check-in and turned away for the flight..we had to rebook for the next day. So i would be cautious just to turn up on the day itself. I did change flights on Iberia from Egypt to Barcelona and there was no cost included in the change of flights, and we again changed flights from London to Madrid via Iberia with no change fees (we were on a round the world ticket).

Cheers,
Razia

Hi John,

I'd save myself tons of frustration with rude local Iberia representatives, and try calling their international customer service (I've been told that the Madrid office takes international calls; their number is 807123 456, you need to include the spanis and Madrid prefixes). Else, you may want to email the Lima branch at limto1 AT iberia.es.
