Iran, Afganistan and the passes in North-Western Pakistan may pose some problems...

It will be easier for others to help if you post info on your vehicle and your proposed route.

Try not to drive in Afganisthan!!.. Since the country has been "liberated" by the Allies, the roads propose many dangers, let alone landmines and guerillas. From England, you ca drive safely through the continent and enjoy very pleasurable roads and such up till the end of Turkey but I suggest you should take a plane for the ramining of your journey.

Ok, I was in doubt about replying yesterday, but now that I noticed the name 'Afghanistan' I felt I just had to say that when driving to India you don't need to travel through Afghanistan.
Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - India.
That's the geographical part, for all your other headaches I don't have an answer sorry.

Google can help, "overland England India" will take you to a journal re. one particular trip. It seems that they had a fun time but they were using a pair of specially prepared Land Rovers.

Afhganistan can, and should be avoided! I included it as part of a potential route to point out that you should provide details on YOUR proposed route.

The areas around the border crossing from Turkey to Iran are probably under Kurdish control. Is this a source of problems for a Brit overland traveller? Or you could avoid the area by going south through Syria and Northern Iraq... NOT!

Bottom line => It is important for you to include info on your route to get better advice!

The best advice may be to either sell your car or put it in a shipping container and pick it up at your port of choice in India.

The advice I get will probably determine my route

it must be doable if you have the "carnet de passage". I don't think you will face much problems. I have met motorcyclists in Iran from UK who bought Enfields in India and drove all the way back. I suppose the Baluchistan area in south-west pakistan is not the safest area to travel in (the area between Zahedan in Iran and Quetta in Pakistan). Just drive through there in one go (i hear the area is notorious for bandit groups). You don't have to drive through Afghanistan obviously. so i guess the entire road is clear. smooth asphalt until Pakistan
