I would like to travel across China from Nanning, by road or rail, to get over the Karakorams into Pakistan. Have you
done this or similar? any suggestions?

I've lived on the Tibet boarder for 3 years, and I can't even get into my home town. The place is shut tight, not sure how long but probably till after the Olympics, so if you route takes you onto the plateau, don't start till Mid Aug.

Hiya Igram, I've done the trip in reverse, taking train and bus to Urumqi, then down into Pakistan via Kashgar...

you can reach Urumqi by bus or by train and then Kashgar by bus from there you can get into pakistan via Khanjrab....... and then via susst you can continue to travell on Karakarm highway. Now a days it is very charming and peacefull, i just made a visit to hunza and Susst last week and it was amazing, after May border will be opened for transportation of heavy traffic and then it will not that calm and amazing as it is now a days.

Places to visit after Khanjrab are Hunza, Karimabad, Gilgit and the glaciers near Hunza.....

Good Luck and let me know if you need any further information
