Just wondering the best way to transfer money from a UK bank into a Aus one. My bank charges me 20 Pounds per time and tell me that the Aus bank may have a charge of there own. Is this the cheepest way to do this or am i missing the plot here.

I was thinking is it just better to take travellers cheques with me and just cash them into a Aus bank ?

The other problem is that i will still be recieving alittle money per month into my English bank account so i dont want to pay stupid ATM fee's or the transfer fee each month.

I did try to get a nationwide account but because i missed a payment on my visa card by a few days a month ago they didn't want to know me. Even tho i have 5 grand in the bank.

Well, Thanks for any help in advance !

Try this company - I have used the several times to transfer money between my UK and NZ bank account and its a fixed charge of 7pounds. They're reliable and efficient from my experience of them.

There is also a company called ex.com they don't charge Fees as such and the rates really good. They obviously make money a point whatever difference to the exchange rate. They are quick and you can get the money to them by a number of means.

I did a couple of SWIFT transfers (i.e. bank to bank as mentioned in the quote) from the UK to Australia last year, and was not charged anything by Australian banks. The transfers I made were from a GBP account and arriving in AUD with the ANZ Bank.

I was just charged the £20 which is fairly standard with UK banks (may differ slightly with different banks).

Visa First, cheapest and quickest way - 48 hours

I'm afraid that 48 hours is not the quickest money transfer you can get from UK to Australia! My experience of using Bank to Bank transfers (SWIFT) last year (this was 2 separate transfers) was much quicker - less than 24 hours after they were processed in the UK they had arrived in my bank account in Australia!

I'm also having difficulty in finding how much it would actually cost to transfer via Traveltowork (the link from Visa First). Doesn't seem to say anywhere, or give any clue.
