Hi Everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help!! I am planning a trip to Oz (Gold Coast) in August I have already just got my Visa from the internet a site called Visa First- Has anyone heard of this and is it legit?
Its just all they have done is sent me an e mail with my electronic visa on and have now sent me an email about my Oz bank account asking me to transfer £2300 before I get there as I need a certificate for immigration when I am there to show I have funds- I am completely confused as I have seen other peeps have been to Oz to work for a while and only taken like £500???

I am plannin on getting return ticket before I go but I know I will not be able to save £2300 before I go-
Also I plan to work out there and have family and friends out there I am planning to stay with all the time I am ther (well most of it!) but dont want to get to Oz airport and find I do not have funds and they wont let me in!!

Any advice help much appreciated!!

Cheers

Jx

hi jessy,
i to am going in august! i wouldnt worry about just getting an email back, me and my 2 mates got exactly the same. when i questioned it they said all you need is to print out the email. then at the airport the authorities will check your passport number and visa number match with whats on their computers. that is how i understand it anyway, if someone who has already done the WHV could confirm that would be great!
about the funds... as far as i no (again i would be happier if someone could confirm) a lot of people just open an australian bank when they get there an then transfer from their home account into it...
also you are rarely, if ever asked to prove your funds according to other posts...
if anyone can go into further details i to would be grateful, thanks an hope this was some help to you jessy

Mark thanks so much that has really put my mind at rest! I just hope they dont check funds as it would be a nightmare if they did and I didn't have the funds!
Where are you planning on going? I am heading to the Gold Coast and then just see how I get on there! Cannot wait though would go tomo if could! It would be great if someone else could confirm about the money situation too!
Thanks

Hello!
dont panic because you'll start to sound like me! im going with ozintro, they state that u need to have a return ticket or sufficient funds to buy ur return ticket home about $5000 thats like...£2300? if u have a return ticket you should be fine. if ur working dont worry about money because apparently wages are good! i will be there from the 4th of aug, im bricking it but i know everything will be ok! if anyone fancies are beer or five, im there from aug and would love to meet just about everyone! x

i would go 2moz aswell if i could but am waiting for my m8 to finish uni. plus i can save money upto august!
in answer to your question jessy: we was going to stick to the east coast, but so many people have recommended western australia that i think we will fly to perth, see a bit of the west then travel to adelaide, melbourne an then move up the east coast as far as cairns. thats the rough plan but it may change when we get there! what about you? an you kirilee? whats your general plans? are you travelling alone or in a group? have sent you my email in a message should ya want to speak about anything else regarding oz! i cant wait

hey dont worry about the money situation. they never asked me see proof of funds at the airport. also bank account-open when u get there. pretty easy as long as u do it in first 6 weeks taht u are there-all they need to see is a passport. if u planning on travlling to regional parts of auz make sure u go with a big bank that has branches all over. ANZ or Commonwealth are the biggest. dont go with citibank- they have had some bad reviews! remember that all banks charge a service fee between 3 dollors to 5 dollors a month. u be fine.

im goin to sydney in october and i was wondering about the whole bank accout thing. my mate has said that some banks will ask you for a permanent address but if your traveling then you wont have 1?? i was wondering what if you opened an account at home with the likes of say HSBC, could you then just walk into any HSBC branch in Oz and have access to your money?

After reading your post i went to HSBC to see if i can set up an account here and use it there. Simple answer is NO. There are rules and regulations that wont alow this to happen. Most of the people doing this are laundering money. Most banks will let you set up an account with paperless statements, so you dont need a permanent adress.
