I am gonna be in Beijing with a friend in end of May and I am looking for a really cool activity or tour or something. It is suppose to be a gift and I am looking for something really special. I mean we are going to the Great Wall and the usual sights anyway, but if anyone has done there something out of the ordinary or know someone who done something like that, I would be really grateful for some tips...

PS: If you know something really unique in Mongolia, please let me know as well...

The city is a museum of history. The palaces of the Ming and Qing emperors present magnificent exterior views and house countless artistic treasures. The rectangular Forbidden City is surrounded by highwalls, with tall towers situated above its gates. The four corners of the Forbidden City walls are topped with skillfully designed watch-towers.

Whether walking on the streets or sightseeing within the palacevisitors are ineluctably attracted by the memorial pillars, pagodasmemorial archways(pailou),ancient temples, bronze and stone lions, stonesculptures and bixi,reptiled-like creatures that resemble the tortoise.

While there is a host of other Buddhist and Daoist temples, mosques and churches.

You can go to have a visit in Houhai area. There you know the daily life of the local people. And there are so many stands selling specailities of Beijing. You can buy what you are interested in at low price after a skillful bargain. That is what I think interesting, in the process of bargain, you can have a thorough communication with them.

In mongolia, you will experience the grassland, the real life of herdsman. Taste the milk tea and their food, ride horse or take part in the bonefire party. Sing and dance together with the ethnic people.

Beijing is a major industrial city with a population of over 10 million. It has some nice sights but it can be very overwhelming, especially if it is your first time in China. I would say check out some ancient stuff and check out some crazy communist stuff like the giant tunnel to Tianjin. Huohai is a major bar place now, But the lakes north of there are really nice and less touristy. Also the huotongs about two blocks away are nice. All this information is on the Beijing Page of the travel guide. Also there is a fare amount of information on the great wall in that section of the travel guide.

Do you mean Inner Mongolia or The country of Mongolia? There is a BIG difference there. Also both are huge areas and can take lots of time. Once again the wiki guide has a good amount of information to start you off. Although there is more on Mongolia then on Inner Mongolia.
