Thank you :)

Was hoping for a few more replies.....wasn't sure of the style of this forum and how people tend to respond. I guess all forums are different!

Have you travelled much yourself Latarina?

The thing with Australia is, nearly anything you can buy at home, you can buy there. So nothing is truly essential to bring.

So for me the list of essentials is something like:

  • Passport
  • Debit card
  • Dutch peppermint

:)

True...or so I hear anyway! :)

Dutch peppermint??

"King Extra Strong" - just a particular brand of peppermint which I really like, and which you can't get outside of the Netherlands. I always bring a couple of dozen rolls on any long trip. (Not a euphemism for anything, in case you were wondering.) :)

Done a year in Australia and New Zealand before (and months in the USA, plus short visits to various other places). I'm also setting off next week on a "short" RTW: Peru, Easter Island, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Finland.

Hi WelshEmma,

I had a think about your post and the things that came to mind were things you can buy here considering you will be living here for a year.

If there are specific things that are important to you that you know are only available in your country then they would be worth considering.

I think what's more important to bring with you is an: open mind and an appreciation for nature.

Sander, hope your travels are going well - hugely jealous!!

I guess I just wanted to know what essentials I should pack, for any country, not specifically Aus I guess, just for travelling in general, maybe that's too broad a question.

Obviously I'm going to be packing clothes, toiletries, shoes, paperwork, passport, money, visa (do I get a paper version to take over or is it online?) and probably things like a penknife, toilet paper!, washing liquid (for clothes) I just wandered if anyone had picked up any ideas on specific items that they wouldn't travel without, regardless maybe of what country they were going to.

:)
