Sleeping at Chennai International?

Travel Forums Asia Sleeping at Chennai International?

Hi all,

Arriving at Chennai at around 10 at night, so by the time i clear immigrations it would be around 11+. Whats my best option? Getting a cab into the city around midnight doesnt sound very appealing to me, but neither is sleeping over at Chennai airport....

What do you recommend?

Thanks

why not getting a taxi into the city. its better than staying in the airport all night. u probably pay some extra for the taxi to drive at night but its worth it. the low budget accomodation is as i remember around the egmore trainstation and that is abt 15-20 kilometres from the airport (maybe u even can get a local train from there but i am not sure). the hotels in india are so easy. there is usually someone sleeping in the lobby in case someone is arriving late.

Thanks, i was looking at some guesthouses around the train station too as there are quite a few around there so i wouldnt be stranded when one is full... So i take it that taxis at night in India are generally safe?

Taxis in India at night are generally safe except a few cities. Chennai is having a good reputation regarding traveller's safety. Take a pre-paid taxi from airport booth. Believe me it's safe. You can also book a hotel at the airport counter. Many hotels provide free shuttles.

Don't use the metered taxi's/autoricksaws in Chennai (they will first drive a few times in circles before take u to your destination), always negotiate a price beforehand.

There are rooms at the airport, just outside the entrance, we paid 400 rupees there a couple of years ago, t.v. and bathroom, run by the airport you have to enquire at the desk. stokesy
