Hi,

I'm thinking of travelling around Argentina and Chile for about 2 months starting in March, hopefully using buses to get around.........that is the extent of my plans so far! At the moment I'm thinking about starting in Buenos Aires and working my way around Argentina, before crossing into Chile...........I'm wondering if anyone has done a similar trip, or if there are any good itineraries of travel which I could look at?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I just got back from Argentina around 12 hours ago so here is a basic idea of how much time you need to alot for the following places:

Buenos Aires - 6 days (ideally, these six days should NOT include the day you fly in or the day you fly out)
El Calafate - 2 days (this includes a day trip to Perito Moreno Glacier)
El Chalten - be flexible about this place since weather is rather unpredictable. If weather is good, this places warrants about 2 full days but to be safe, I'd alot about 4 days here
Ushuaia - 2 full days. If you plan on doing the rough catamaran ride to Puerto Williams in Chile, keep in mind that the catamaran does not run everyday - something you might want to factor into your travel planning process.

Hope this helps.

I am just 1 week back from 6 months there.

The only thing I would say is to not waste time by not picking a logical route. No point whatsoever in double tracking yourself etc.

Also, how long do you want to spend in each country. Any particular sights?

Basically more info required.

perhaps.

Bs As - Bariloche - Puerto Montt then boat (Navimag) to Puerto Natales - Torres del Paine - El Calafete - El Chaltan - long long bus journey back towards Puno in Chile and up towards Santiago - Mendoza - San Juan/Salta (not sure how far you want to go) - Cordoba - Rosario - Bs As

After saying not to back track I have given you a route that is shaped like an 8 lol.

Anyway, I do think it's not too bad a route and you could try to work it in with the weather being good.

Thanks for the replies...much appreciated! At the moment i'm not completly sure exactly how long I want to spend in either place........possibly a month in each, but that's pretty flexible! I know I definatly want to go to Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls and Cordoba, Parque Nacional Los Glaciares and possibly Ushuaia......I am aware that they are mainly in the North and then the South of Argentina!! As for Chile....at present I'm not really sure where I want to go there....I'm still in the finding out stage.

Thanks again for the advice already given!
