hi there,
i think that a one year holiday visa is for a calendar year only so thats how long you have to use it, if you leave and want to return in the six mos window you can but once that is up you have to reapply for another visa with no guarantee that they will give it to you.

Hiya

Your working holiday visa is valid for 12months from the date of entry into Australia. You say that you have done six months and now intend on leveaving Australia. There is no problem with you doing this however your WHV will continue to run up until the date 12months after you first entered Australia using it whether your in the country or not.

I am guessing you intend on leaving Australia and returning some time in the future and not within the remaiing 6 months of your WHV? If this is the case your WHV will have expired and as this is only granted once in a lifetime you will have to apply for a new visa to enter the country.

There is nothing to stop you applying for a tourist visa for either 3 or 6 months as you can have as many of these as you like throughout your lifetime - unlike the WHV - however you cannot under any circumstances work on this visa.

If I were you I wouldn't want to pass up on the opportunity of missing out on the remaining 6 months of your WHV so would suggest staying in the country until this runs out, travelling and earning money whilst you go in order to fund travelling elsewhere.

I have been to Oz on a tourist visa and it is surprising just how much cash you get through - especially when you have no means of earning money to replace what you spend!
