$70 a day in the philippines is plenty!!!! I usually spend about $10 per day not including hotel. It is about $10 per night for a decent hostel/small hotel. A beer is about $0.60 in the right bars, or a bit more expensive in the touristy bars. A meal will probably be about $2 although you can get meals a lot cheaper than that. A bus journey that lasts about 5 hours will cost about $4. Th Philippines is very cheap. Have a great time. When will you be there and where do you think you are going? I will be back in September for a month in Bacolod. It is not a touristy city but the island of Negros (and the surrounding islands of the Visayers) are great with amazing beaches etc.

Hi!

Here's a rough range of costs here:

Food: $1.5-$6 per dish
Drinks: $0.70-$5 per drink (sodas, beers, cocktails)
Rooms: $12-$60 a night
Flights: $85-$230 for roundtrip domestic flights
Bus trips: $3-$25 for one-way trips out-of town (Batangas, Baguio, Sorsogon, etc)
Transpo: $10 tops per day, if you're taking a taxi around town

There you go, applicable both in the islands and within Metro Manila. :) Lemme know if you have more questions. We can also meet up when you're in town, let a local buy you a drink. :)

$40 per day will be plenty. Unless you partake in Western activities such as PADI diving courses etc, its all cheap.
Accommodation is probably more expensive in the Philippines, but that is still cheap.
Beer from the Sari Sari stores is ultra cheap, but you'll need a fridge in your room, and you have to take the bottles back each time you fill up.

Thanks guys , i`ll be there about july for about 3 weeks . wershwie yeah a beer would be great ;) .. Can any of you recommend a fair priced guest house in Manila . Also is there any type of backpacker areas there to start off my trip so i can find my feet . Whats the weather like in July also i know its rain season but how much rain do you get that time of year ??

The Ermita area in Manila should have the cheapest accomm options.
As for rain, it'll probably bucket down most afternoons for an hour or so, then fine up.
Gives you a chance to have an early beer, or afternoon siesta.
Forgot to mention, if you stay on the beach and are comfortable with only fan cooled room and a sea breeze, then you will save around $8 per night as a/c runs on imported fuel and costs heaps.

A beer it is, then! Or more, even! Ahaha ;P

Wow, I'm expecting a few travelers in July. That pretty interesting. :)

You might wanna try FRIENDLY'S GUESTHOUSE in Malate. That's where most backpackers stay, and it's pretty much near the other famous sights to see while you're in town. I've checked it out before and they have decent rooms and a very relaxing common area.

My Swiss friends stayed in a guesthouse along Adriatico street, a bit farther from the bars and restaurants. I'll try to get the name of the place, but it seemed really nice. Was basically an ancestral house converted into a hostel of sorts, and they have a small pool, too :)

Yup, Friendly's Guesthouse is right smack in the middle of nightlife. :)

I posted the price range for flights, and Boracay is within that range. You can check schedules at www.flyseair.com or prices and skeds at www.cebupacificair.com. Check out flights to CATICLAN, that's the airport nearest to Boracay
