I have not long come back from travelling around australia - it was amazing by the way, now i'm looking at moving out there in a year or so's time. I was just wondering has anyone been to Port Douglas? I was originally gone to look at moving to Cairns because I loved it there but I've been looking at Port Douglas on the internet, not having been there I was wondering what its like?
Any views on the place would be great.
Port Douglas is Ok. I spent about a month there working at one of the fancy hotels. It's a bit more upmarket, and not as much going on for the young traveler. Personally I liked the atmosphere of Cairns better. The only advantage of Port Doulgas is that the town is on a fantastic beach. If you are going for the beach atmosphere, have you considered Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays? I loved living in there. Lots of casual work there too.
I stayed at arlie beach for a while when I was over there really liked it. The only thing is i'm probably going to have to try and get over there with my I.T skills which I dont think there would be anywhere in arlie beach for that. What I really want is to be doing diving for a career over there i've got my padi open water i'm slowly working to become an instructor but i dont think ill get out there on that!?
Nice idea, I live in Cairns.
Port Douglas is lovely, but a tourist destination, so it's quite expensive. Even buying or renting a place there would be a bit hard on the pocket i'd reckon.
It could also be hard to find a job up there, but it depends on what you do for a living I guess. Alot of people do go back and forth for work and such from Cairns, but it's a good 30-40min drive and the price of petrol is only going to go up. Cairns has a night life also. It's a nice place to visit sure, and alot of people go up there for the weekend.
You could always move to cairns rent a place, check PD out yourself and it suits you move there?
