Getting the itinerary together -

Four nights in Venice
Ferry to Istria Wednesday August 27th.
13-14 days going south through Croatia then hope to fly into Athens from Dubrovnik.

Looking at visiting Pula, Opatija, Rijeka (to catch ferry), Zadar, Split, Hvar, Korcula then finish in Dubrovnik.

Croatia (Pula)
Croatia (Pula)
Croatia (Opatija)
Croatia (Rijeka/Zadar)
Croatia (Zadar)
Croatia (Zadar)
Croatia (Split)
Croatia (Split)
Croatia (Hvar)
Croatia (Hvar)
Croatia (Korcula)
Croatia (Korcula)
Croatia (Dubrovnik)
Croatia (Dubrovnik)
Athens

Home

Does that look doable or too rushed?
Too long or too short a time in the places mentioned?
Have I missed anywhere which is a total MUST?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I really like Zagreb, pity no one goes there.

I agree with Coldwarspy, Zadar is cool.... but Ssshhh don't tell anyone else.

Looks like you have a pretty full list on your itinerary.

I'll give you the same piece of advice about visiting Croatia that I give to everyone else.... Have somewhere booked for your first night, after that do whatever feels right. Simple!

It's not like visiting the more regimental tourist destinations, you'll see somewhere you like and stay there, you'll get a recommendation to go somewhere else and go there, and at the last minute you'll end up rushing to get somewhere else to catch your flight out.

Although, I would say, if you really want to try the quietness and peace of Croatia; take the morning ferry from Dubrovnik and go to the island of Mjlet. It's an island National Park and so peaceful. Be prepared to walk or cycle (in very hot temperatures, it must be said) as there's not a lot of transport on this small, idylic, beautiful, sun-soaked, dolphin-friendly....... etc island.

Most of all enjoy yourself.

Hi zaksame,

I will be spending a week in Dubrovnik this October.
I would appreciate if you could guide me on the island of Mjlet. What are the journey hours like to Mjlet?
Besides, is it worth taking a day trip to Split?

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Kody, a friendly sugestion. Don t think too much between Split and Mljet. Split is a "big" city with some cultural and historic places. Mljet is just simple REAL paradise.
Very best and good luck

We took a day trip to Mljet in August from Dubrovnik.. Boat leaves early in the morning and doesn't come back until around 5.30pm.. The National Park is fabulous and well worth a visit but this could be done in around 2 hours or so.. If I was going again I'd book on an organised trip (lots of them available in shops in the Old Town) to Mljet so you aren't sitting around for half a day waiting for the boat back.. Definately go to Split - it's great!! Not too sure about Zagreb though - very quiet city!!
