Hey, im not travelling till next year but im doing a 8 month stay in Canada,Banff, from sep till end of april then going travelling on from there for around 4-5 months until i start uni. Not planning to book any flights until i get out to canada so trying to get as much info as i can now. Planning on going to NZ first then figi then OZ then finally up to china. I cant wait, even now ive started to wonder about going it alone but from what everyone says it seems like the right idea.
Just wondering if anyone has done a similiar trip nz-figi-oz and how much money they took with them and eventually spent on accom and travelling and also what is the best way to travel, looked at the experience bus things but my friends in Nz now and said there rushed and not worth the hassle all the time, recommended hitchhiking some places. Any ideas?
Also do i need any visas for Nz figi or Oz if im not working during my trip? i plan to stay for 6 weeks in nz, 1 week in figi and 6 weeks in oz travelling the east coast, thanks for you help.
I am going travelling for 3 months later this year and am doing some of the states-Fiji-NZ-Oz. It may be suggested to do fiji after canada as this was considered a stop over for us flying from the US not NZ, also milage wise it makes sense to do it in tha order.
Not sure how much each destination is costing but we are busgeting around £1000 a month for accomodation and food and going out etc, we intend to stay in hostels/camper van in NZ.
Are you British? If so you will defianlty need a visa for OZ!
NZ I think you only need one after 30 days and think Fiji is fine too.
Hope that helps
I did this route 20 years ago, and I agree with the above post - Fiji is a stopover on the way down under. Air New Zealand is the very best for this route, but often codeshares with Air Pacific (a sub. of Qantas I believe). I spent most of my trip in AU (6 wks by bus from Cairns to Perth, a week in Fiji and 2 in NZ). Way back then the prices were really cheap for Americans, but I understand prices are WAY UP and it's no longer any bargain! To my understanding, NZ is a bit cheaper than AU and Perth is the most expensive city in AU. Here's the current cost-of-living index (scroll to the bottom): http://www.finfacts.ie/costofliving.htm
Ah rite thanks i did think it seemed pointless looking at it going canada nz figi. Is it warm enough in Nz during may? it seems so varied when u talk to people. Hopefully your budget of £1000 is right cause i was hopefully looking along those lines, didnt know wether this nzexperience thing is worth it, about £300 for the ticket, prob be cheaper than seperate journeys i guess, anyway thanks for the help.
Yea i am british, just doing a gap year in canada before going travelling, i think i would be in nz for longer than 30 days, ill look into a visa, thanks for the help.
And thanks for the help Daawgon for the financial advise.
