I'm trying to book my flight to Bali....and the agents are telling me everything is going up a lot beginning June 1, 08! It's not going to stop my love for travel, but it will put a damper on my finances.

How do others feel about this?????

It's a f###kin disgrace is what it is. Oil companies making billions of pounds profit every year in spite of the fact that oil is going up in price for them as well. Everyone is winning in this big oil increase fiasco apart from us, the consumers. Its just one thing after another with the airline industry being a scape goat as well for the "green" taxes and prejudices. Even politicians say that they are putting more "green" taxes on flights yet openly say that this extra money will not be spent on "green" issues but on other things!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE F##K????? If you are going to say they are "green" taxes then at least use this money to fund green issues, like funding efforts to make greener engines and fuel etc. Also, if anyone has a little bit of a brain cell in their head they can see from various sources that airline are only a tiny part of the global warming problem, about 2%. Even boats are far more environmentally UN-friendly. EVEN COWS DAMAGE THE ENVIRONMENT MORE THAN PLANES!!!!!! The main people that are going to lose out on this are normal working class families that get 1 holiday a year but who now will not be able to go. It wont effect the richer people (now there's a surprise) so basically it is just another tax on the poor.

I agree, this country is rapidly going down the pan with regards to taxing the sh*t out of everything they can think of and is just increasing my dislike for the place. Hence going travelling around the world in 48 days!

But to add to the comments below, I went travelling in 2005 and paid £900 for my flights (inc tax), then compared to the prices i more recently paid for my RTW trip - £1,3500 it has dramatically gone up. This price was based on approx £900 for the flight and the rest was tax!!
I bought my ticket from Travel Nation as they were offering the cheapest price, but when i was making initial enquiries for tickets, people STA quoted me between £600-£700 that i could expect to pay for Tax alone.
This really made me consider if i wanted to go ahead with my travels because I felt that I was being ripped off, but thankfully it didn’t and I am really excited about my trip.

Hopefully when Mr Brown f**ks off, the new government might bang their heads together and make us a bit happier! ;)

And on top of this. In the Netherlands they have now introduced an environmental tax on flights. This basically means 11 euro extra on flights within Europe and 50 euro extra on intercontinental flights. I now fly from Frankfurt, rather than from Amsterdam for this reason.

So that is the reason why Easyjet flights to Amsterdam are now far more expensive. I used to fly for about £20 but now the cheapest is £50. Still pretty cheap but still a big increase. Mind you the hostels are now stupidly expensive in Amsterdam, the prices have gone up massively, and since the coffee shop/bar situation changed the price of beer has also gone up!! One of my favourite cities in the world is getting out of my price range which is such a shame.

well, if it means anything, some airlines are still ok. i just checked globespan, and it's cheaper than what it was when i bought my ticket two months ago. (not by a lot, by about 30ish bucks, but it's still something). mind you, i've heard globespan isn't the best airline, seeing as it's uber discount and delays you incredible amounts...but aside that...a hopeful point?

i agree, though. i just hope they stop at some point, or it'll be a long walk from serbia to india.

Got a call from my travel agent yesterday telling me that Emirates were increasing their airfares out of Oz by 12% today and would I like to have her issue my tickets to Venice at the existing price (difference was 360 clams).
Naturally I said 'DO IT'.
Just part of life's rich tapestry

Am I the only one here thinking that this is truly wonderful news?

The more expensive it becomes, the more aspiring travellers will actually think before recklessly flying their bums halfway across the globe for a five-day holiday. Any of you ever thinks about the amounts of fuel involved? Hopefully we'll see further increases in the future, and hopefully, this will cause people to spend at least part of their free time a bit closer to home. If that happens, I couldn't care less where the extra money ends up.

Yet again someone who has absolutely no idea about carbon emmisions just spouts on the same crap as their government tells them to. Look into the facts before saying how bad flying is for the environment. Yes lets all travel over land and sea as it's better for the environment....WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! cars are obviously far worse and also so are boats, but no one ever hears about this do they? Nor indeed do they bother to find out for themselves before telling other people what to do. I presume the poster who said this is rather well off and so will not feel any worse off for paying that bit extra, unlike the majority of people who love travelling and can only do so if the fares are not out of their reach. Also they say they couldn't care less where the extra money went to!!!! WHAAAATTT????? So if I come round to your house begging for money to save the children of the world then I take your money and go spend it on booze you wouldn't mind????
